If you’re like many of us this summer, the warm weather has you absolutely itching to get out and get active. Summer is the best time to shed that extra winter weight that has been hanging around like that college roommate you had who never seemed to leave the couch. Here in the Rockies, mountain biking is one of our favourite summer pastime to lose those inches and whip the body back in to shape. All throughout the summer the mountains echo with the sounds of gears changing and wheels skidding as true mountain bike enthusiasts rip up the trails in search of the perfect ride.
July brings two fantastic mountain bike races here to Canmore. The first is 24hrs of Adrenaline, the July 20th day-long race, which serves as just a warm up for the main event hardcore cyclists can’t wait to sink their teeth (and wheels) in to… That’s right, the TransRockies 7 day Fernie to Canmore Race is back once again this year, and 2013 brings a whole new component to this year’s competition. For the first time in TransRockies history, the rules have been altered and now allow for solo riders to compete as well as the traditional two-person race team.
This is the original epic mountain bike race of the summer, represented by over 20 nations each year, and one that is held in the same international regard as other world-famous mountain bike races such as the Transalp, Cape Epic and La Ruta. Since the first TransRockies race in 2002, the route taken has been significantly maintained and altered to ensure the best single-track course there is.
Boasting 330km in length and more than 12,000m of climbing, this race is set to challenge even the most seasoned of riders. Don’t let that discourage you though! This race has some of the best participant support, both on and off the trail. Riders are provided with everything they need to keep them racing on. The race begins on July 27th in beautiful Fernie BC, with Canmore’s own picturesque mountain backdrop serving as your finish line on day 7.
